Frequently Asked Questions

What are you doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

BCDC remains committed to providing high-quality child care while navigating this unprecedented situation. We are doing everything we can to keep children, staff, and families as safe as possible.

Please review BCDC’s Guidance for Center Families, Related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) that outlines the processes and procedures that BCDC is following to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Center and in our community. These processes and procedures are based on guidance issued by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), updated as of August 21, 2020. OSSE’s guidance offers recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and DC Health for child care providers that operate during Phase 2 of the recovery period immediately following the public health emergency. We will update this guidance as additional recommendations from OSSE, CDC, or DC Health become available.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Yes! BCDC offers families with more than one child enrolled at the Center 10% off the oldest child’s tuition.

What’s your process for filling enrollment slots?

In order to ensure fairness, BCDC fills open spaces according to three tiers of priority:

  1. Currently Enrolled Children: We will first check to see if any of our currently enrolled children in younger classrooms are eligible to move up and into the new space. If the child’s parents are in agreement, we’ll move the child into the new space.
  2. Sibling Priority: If there are no currently enrolled children eligible to move up, we’ll check our waitlist to see if any of our currently enrolled families have another child waiting for a space.
  3. Waitlisted Families: If there are no currently enrolled children or siblings available to assume the open space, we’ll offer the space to the next eligible family on the waitlist.

Upon accepting an offer of enrollment, parent(s) must pay the first month of tuition 30 days prior to their child’s first day of school. If accepting an offer fewer than 30 days before their proposed start date, the parents must pay the first month of tuition within five business days of accepting an offer. If a child first day is mid-month, tuition will be prorated for the first month only. Families must also submit their paperwork prior to their first day of school.

How long is your waitlist?

BCDC maintains multiple waitlists that shift dynamically according to the children’s dates of birth, the number of slots in the classroom(s) in which the children are eligible to enroll, and the parents’ desired dates of enrollment. We also have families who join or withdraw from the waitlist according to their own needs at various times of the year. As you may imagine, this means that there isn’t a hard and fast answer to this question.

We always advise families that because of our long history in the community, we are fortunate to maintain a healthy waitlist at all times of the year. This is not a reason to avoid joining the waitlist, as it isn’t uncommon for newly listed families to receive offers in the next admissions cycle.

What is my number of the waitlist and how quickly will I move up?

Because your waitlist position will shift numerous times in a rolling twelve month period based on your child’s age, your desired enrollment date, whether current families with sibling priority join the waitlist, and other factors, we do not issue waitlist numbers.

How quickly the list moves is difficult to answer. There have been admissions cycles in which the waitlist barely budges. In other cycles, children have moved up very quickly because families ahead of them on the list have found other childcare options while waiting. We know how urgently our waitlisted families desire to know how long they’ll be waiting for a slot, but waitlist movement really is dependent on demand, and is nearly impossible for us to predict.

How can I submit a waitlist application? Is there an application fee?

Please apply online. There is a waitlist application fee of $100.

Do you currently (or will you, in the future) have a space available for my child?

Please contact us directly by email at info@bcdconline.org to inquire about availability. Please be sure to include your child’s date of birth so that we can check for availability in the appropriate age group(s).

Do you offer part time enrollment?

Our Center only provides full time care.

May I visit BCDC for a tour?

Yes! We are currently offering evening tours of our Center. If you would like to join us for an evening tour, please click here.

How often do children transition from classroom to classroom?

BCDC is a year-round daycare with classrooms that transition on a standard school-year calendar. This means that our children start the school year in a new classroom each September and stay in their rooms until August of the next year when it’s time to transition again. There are occasional mid-year transitions when spaces become available, creating opportunities for developmentally ready children to transition early.

Do you accept subsidy vouchers or offer financial aid?

We do not accept subsidy vouchers or provide financial aid at this time.
